There are several troubling trends for me this year. The first is the state of our economy and the lack of control I feel about many daily decisions I need to make. People all over my community are losing their jobs, losing their homes, etc... It's a frightening and uncertain time for most people. I am worried about the upcoming Winter months as I need a new heating system for my home. I need to do some comparison shopping by searching online for compare gas furnaces as the keyword phrase. Last Spring would have been a more reasonable time to start all of this, but there were just too many other things needing my attention.
I want to be an informed consumer. I need to learn about how one goes about becoming this. I did go online and got a sense of the categories people focus on when trying to cost compare gas furnaces. They look at reviews by satisfied and not-so-satisfied customers. They review what heating engineers have to say about a particular product line such as Trane or Goodman. The topic of Warranty Coverage is getting a lot of focus when it comes to the purchase of high efficiency gas furnaces. A lot of money can be saved by first comparing the warranties between gas furnace manufacturers. Another focus seems to be on whether or not significant savings can be had by avoiding the purchase of a heating system with a standing pilot flame. Apparently, one can save as much as 12% on their annual total fuel costs by avoiding this kind of system. In it's place, one could consider purchasing a two-stage gas furnace with a "closed" combustion chamber.
Now, I feel better prepared to select a new furnace system. I have more information to work with on how to compare gas furnaces. I have made an appointment with my local credit union for some financial assistance. One positive thing is that there are funds available for the purchase of energy efficient products.
